Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington she was made general correspondent by NBC News two year later. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent by 1988. Mitchell was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV program Meet the Press and also host of the show. She participated as a member of a panel discussion at the the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contribution to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of notable stories, including the Iran Contra scandal, budget tax reforms and arms control. Mitchell traveled with Ronald Reagan several times to summits and debate matters such as the Iran Contra controversy.
